Woodchop (Dumbbell)

Also called Dumbbell Woodchop, Dumbbell Wood Chop

How to do it

Hold one dumbbell with both hands and stand sideways to your working direction, starting at the chosen high or low position beside one hip. Rotate and draw the bell diagonally across your body, pause without losing your stance, then return slowly along the same path. Complete the set facing the other direction.

Setup

Stand with feet shoulder width, both hands wrapped around one end of a single dumbbell, arms softly bent. Pick a start height beside one hip — high or low — and set an athletic stance with ribs stacked over pelvis before the first rep.

Where you should feel it

Through the core and obliques as the torso turns and controls the return, with the hips and inner and outer thighs stabilizing the stance.

When to use it

Use when no cable or digital-resistance station is free, or to add load progression by dumbbell size rather than a stack. Keep the chosen start height consistent within a logged exercise until directional history is formally separated.
