Hip Abduction (Cable)

Also called Cable Hip Abduction

How to do it

Attach an ankle cuff to the leg farthest from a low pulley and stand tall while holding a support. Move the cuffed leg outward from the hip without tilting your pelvis, pause while squeezing the outer hip, then return slowly across the resistance. Complete the set and repeat on the other side.

Setup

Attach a secure ankle cuff to the leg farthest from the low pulley and stand side-on holding a stable support. Keep the planted foot braced, pelvis level, torso tall, and working toes facing forward.

Where you should feel it

At the outer hip and upper glute of the working leg, with the core, inner thigh, and planted calf maintaining balance. Avoid leaning away or turning the toes upward.

When to use it

Use for unilateral outer-hip strength, side-to-side assessment, and controlled accessory volume. Perform 10-20 reps per side.
