Decline Bench Press (Dumbbell)

Also called Decline Dumbbell Bench Press, DB Decline Bench Press

How to do it

Set the bench to –15 to –20° — a shallow negative is all you need, steeper adds little and makes getting set awkward. Secure your legs and lie back with a dumbbell in each hand at chest level, palms facing forward. Press the bells up and slightly together to lockout, then lower under control until you feel the stretch across the lower chest.

Setup

Set a shallow decline, secure your legs, and bring the dumbbells into position before lying back. Pin your shoulder blades and start with one bell beside each lower chest, wrists stacked over elbows.

Where you should feel it

Across the lower-to-mid chest with a deeper independent-handle stretch, plus the shoulders stabilizing each dumbbell. If the front shoulders dominate, shorten the bottom range and keep the elbows below shoulder height.

When to use it

Use for decline pressing with independent arm paths and a larger controllable range than a barbell. It works well for moderate-load chest volume and side-to-side balance in roughly the 8-12 rep range.
