Guillotine Press (Barbell)
Also called Guillotine Press, Neck Press, Neck Press (Barbell), Barbell Guillotine Press
How to do it
Lie fully supported on a flat bench and hold the bar with a wide grip over the upper chest. Lower it slowly toward the upper-chest line with the elbows flared only as far as the shoulders remain comfortable, stop well before the bar approaches the neck or shoulder control is lost, then press to straight arms. Use a light load and conservative range.
Setup
Use a rack with safeties set above the neck and a competent spotter when possible. Keep the head, upper back, hips, and feet supported; grip wider than a standard bench press with wrists stacked, shoulder blades controlled, and bar starting over the upper chest.
Where you should feel it
Across the upper chest with the front delts and triceps assisting, while the core and forearms stabilize the bench position and wide bar path. Stop immediately for front-shoulder or neck discomfort.
When to use it
Use only as an advanced, light-load chest-hypertrophy variation for athletes with pain-free shoulder range and reliable bar control. Favor controlled sets of 8-15 reps with safeties; it is not a maximal-strength lift.
