Incline Bench Press (Barbell)

Also called Barbell Incline Bench Press - Medium Grip, BB Incline Bench Press

How to do it

Lie back on an incline bench set to 30–45°. Grip the bar just outside shoulder width, lower with control to the upper chest, then press to near-full extension. Targets the upper chest and front delts.

Setup

Bench set 30-45 degrees, shoulder blades pinned, feet flat. Grip slightly narrower than flat bench; the bar should touch high on the chest, just below the collarbone.

Where you should feel it

Upper chest and the front of the shoulder. Dropping the bar too low turns it into a flat press and moves the work off the upper chest.

When to use it

The upper-chest builder. Program after or instead of flat bench when the upper chest is the priority; 6-10 reps suits it best.
