Hip Extension (Cable)

Also called Cable Glute Kickback, Cable Glute Kickbacks, Cable Hip Extension

How to do it

Attach an ankle cuff to a low cable and stand facing the pulley while holding a support. Drive the cuffed leg backward from the hip without arching your lower back, squeeze the glute, then return under control without letting the stack drop. Complete the set and repeat on the other side.

Setup

Attach a secure ankle cuff to the low cable, face the pulley, and hold a fixed support with both hips square. Stand far enough back for light starting tension, soften the supporting knee, and brace your ribs over your pelvis.

Where you should feel it

Primarily in the working-side glute as the leg travels backward, with mild hamstring assistance and the supporting hip keeping you level. Lower-back pressure means you are arching or rotating instead of extending from the hip.

When to use it

Use for unilateral glute isolation with continuous tension and small load adjustments. It works well after compound lower-body work or for controlled side-to-side volume in roughly the 10-20 rep range.
