Hip Extension (Machine)
Also called Hip Extension (Gym Machine), Glute Kickback Machine
How to do it
Set up in the hip-extension machine with one working leg against the pad and your torso supported. Drive that leg backward from the hip until the glute is fully contracted without arching your lower back, then return under control to the starting position. Complete the set and repeat on the other side.
Setup
Adjust the machine so its pad contacts the working leg above the knee or at the intended lever point and your torso is securely supported. Square both hips to the machine, soften the supporting knee, and hold the handles before moving.
Where you should feel it
Primarily in the working-side glute through the guided extension, with mild hamstring assistance. Lower-back pressure or pelvis rotation means the pad position, load, or range needs adjustment.
When to use it
Use for stable unilateral glute volume when balance is not the training goal. The supported path is useful for controlled sets near fatigue and straightforward side-to-side progression.
