Hip Thrust (Cable)

Also called Cable Hip Thrust, Low-Pulley Hip Thrust

How to do it

Sit with your upper back against a stable bench and a padded low-cable belt or attachment secured evenly across your hips. Drive through both feet to lift your hips until your torso and thighs form a straight line, squeeze your glutes, then lower under control without arching your lower back.

Setup

Position the bench so the low cable tracks evenly across your hips, secure a padded belt or attachment, and plant both feet with your shins near vertical at lockout. Keep the cable centered, shoulder blades on the bench, and ribs down.

Where you should feel it

Squarely in the glutes at lockout with continuous cable tension through the return. Hamstring cramping often means the feet are too far out; lower-back pressure means the hips are overextending instead of the glutes finishing.

When to use it

Use for hip-thrust volume with continuous tension and smaller load jumps than a barbell. It is useful for controlled glute work in the 8-15 rep range when a safe belt or padded cable setup is available.
