Bent Over Row (Machine)

Also called Bent Over Row (Gym Machine), Smith Machine Bent Over Row

How to do it

Set the bar just below knee height and hinge to about 45 degrees with a flat back, gripping just outside the knees. Pull the bar to your lower ribs, driving the elbows back and squeezing the shoulder blades, then lower under control.

Setup

Set the guided bar around knee height, stand with soft knees, and hinge to a fixed inclined torso with a neutral spine. Grip just outside your legs, brace your trunk, and let the arms extend beneath your shoulders.

Where you should feel it

Between the shoulder blades and through the lats as the elbows drive back, with the hamstrings and lower back bracing the unsupported torso. The guided bar removes path control but should not turn the row into an upright pull.

When to use it

Use when you want a loadable bent-over row with a guided bar path but still want to train the unsupported hinge. It suits moderate-to-heavy sets when you can maintain the same torso angle throughout.
