Box Squat (Machine)

Also called Smith Machine Box Squat, Machine Box Squat

How to do it

Set a stable box beneath a Smith or guided squat machine and position the bar across the upper back. Sit the hips back and down until they contact the box, pause briefly without relaxing or rocking, then drive through the whole feet to stand along the guided path. Keep the knees aligned and repeat the same depth.

Setup

Place a stable box inside the guided path, set safety stops, and secure the bar across the upper back. Stand just ahead of the box with feet positioned for the machine arc, torso braced, and knees tracking over the toes.

Where you should feel it

Through the quads and glutes along the guided squat path, with the hamstrings, adductors, and calves assisting while the core and lower back keep the torso rigid during box contact.

When to use it

Use for stable, progressively loaded box-squat strength when a guided bar reduces balance demand. Controlled sets of 6-15 reps fit well with safety stops set.
