Overhead Squat (Dumbbell)

Also called DB Overhead Squat

How to do it

Press a dumbbell overhead in each hand and lock your arms out. Keeping the dumbbells overhead and core braced, squat down until thighs are parallel, then drive back up to standing.

Setup

One or two bells locked out overhead with active shoulders, feet shoulder width, toes slightly out.

Where you should feel it

Quads driving while the shoulder and torso fight to keep the bell stacked over the mid-foot.

When to use it

The accessible overhead squat — easier to balance than a bar and a good single-side stability check.
