Pistol Squat (Cable)

How to do it

Face away from a low cable and hold the handle at your chest while standing on one leg. Sit down and forward into a controlled pistol squat against the cable load, keep the full foot planted, then drive through that leg to stand. Complete the set and repeat on the other side.

Setup

Set one cable low behind you and hold the handle securely at the chest. Stand far enough forward for light tension, balance over one full foot, extend the free leg, and keep the hips square.

Where you should feel it

In the working quad and glute as you control the cable-loaded descent and stand, with the core, calf, and hips maintaining balance. Avoid being pulled backward.

When to use it

Use for externally loaded pistol-squat strength with continuous cable resistance. Keep the cable position and depth consistent for sets of 6-12 reps per side.
