Incline Triceps Extension (Barbell)

Also called Incline Barbell Triceps Extension, BB Incline Triceps Extension

How to do it

Set the bench to 30–60° — steeper sits you more upright, shallower puts more stretch on the triceps long head overhead. Lie back holding a barbell with an overhand grip slightly narrower than shoulder width, arms extended overhead. Bend at the elbows to lower the bar behind your head, then extend back to lockout keeping the upper arms still.

Setup

Set the bench to about 30-60 degrees and lie back holding an EZ-bar or barbell with a close overhand grip. Keep wrists straight, upper arms angled overhead, and elbows aimed forward.

Where you should feel it

Through both triceps, especially the long head in the stretched position behind the head, with the front shoulders holding the upper arms steady. Avoid elbow flare.

When to use it

Use for progressively loaded long-head triceps strength and hypertrophy with more stretch than a flat lying extension. Controlled sets of 8-15 reps fit well.
