Overhead Extension (Barbell)
Also called Standing Overhead Triceps Extension (Barbell), Standing Overhead Barbell Triceps Extension, BB Overhead Extension
How to do it
Stand tall holding an EZ-bar or barbell overhead with a close overhand grip and both elbows pointing forward. Bend the elbows to lower the bar behind your head into a controlled triceps stretch, then extend both elbows until the arms are straight. Keep the upper arms still and ribs down.
Setup
Stand with the bar overhead in a close, even overhand grip. Keep wrists straight, elbows aimed forward, upper arms near the ears, ribs stacked, and stance stable.
Where you should feel it
Through both triceps, especially in the stretched overhead position, with the front shoulders and core holding the upper arms and torso still. Avoid elbow flare or back arch.
When to use it
Use for progressively loaded bilateral long-head triceps strength and hypertrophy. An EZ-bar and controlled sets of 8-15 reps are usually wrist-friendly.
