Shoulder Press (Dumbbell)

Also called Dumbbell Shoulder Press, Overhead Press (Dumbbell), Seated Press (Dumbbell), Seated Military Press (Dumbbell), DB Shoulder Press

How to do it

Sit or stand holding a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height with your wrists stacked over your elbows. Press both dumbbells overhead until your arms are nearly straight, then lower them under control to shoulder height. Keep your ribs down and avoid excessive elbow flare.

Setup

Bells at shoulder height, palms forward or slightly turned in, elbows just in front of the body. Ribs down, glutes squeezed.

Where you should feel it

Front and side shoulder, with more stabiliser work than a bar because each side is on its own.

When to use it

Vertical pressing with a friendlier shoulder path and a built-in balance check. 8-12 reps.
