Calf Raise (Dumbbell)

Also called Dumbbell Calf Raise, DB Calf Raise, Standing Calf Raise (Dumbbell)

How to do it

Stand with a dumbbell in each hand and the balls of both feet on the edge of a stable step. Rise onto your toes as high as possible, pause at full calf contraction, then lower both heels slowly below the step for a controlled stretch.

Setup

Hold one dumbbell in each hand with equal load and place the balls of both feet evenly on a stable step. Stand tall with the heels free, keep the ankles aligned, and use a nearby support only if balance limits the calf work.

Where you should feel it

Through both calves at the top and a controlled ankle stretch at the bottom, with the forearms holding the load. If balance or grip fails before the calves, reduce load or use a supported setup.

When to use it

Use for accessible loaded calf work without a rack or machine. It works well in moderate-to-high rep ranges and allows simple progression while maintaining independent loads.
