Seated Calf Raise (Barbell)
Also called Barbell Seated Calf Raise, BB Seated Calf Raise
How to do it
Sit on a bench with the balls of the feet on a block and a padded barbell resting across the thighs near the knees. Press through the balls of the feet to raise the heels to a full calf contraction, then lower the heels below the block for the stretch.
Setup
Sit with knees near 90 degrees and the balls of both feet on a sturdy block. Place a thick pad under the bar across the lower thighs near the knees and hold it securely with both hands.
Where you should feel it
Deep in the lower calves through the bent-knee raise and controlled stretch. Keep pressure through the big-toe side and avoid bouncing at the bottom.
When to use it
Use for progressively loaded bent-knee calf strength and hypertrophy when a dedicated machine is unavailable. Controlled sets of 8-20 reps work well.
